For Immediate Release: January 7, 2008
Contact: Amanda Cooper or Erin O’Neill (718) 622-3005 Look & Listen Proudly Announces: Performers Include: “The Festival defines new music in refreshingly inclusive terms, taking full measure of the current blurring of borders between contemporary-classical composers, post-rock chamber ensembles and ambient-music performers.” The 2008 Look & Listen Festival takes place in three concerts over three days: The Look & Listen Festival is an annual event that provides an inventive context for experiencing music and art; the Look & Listen Festival seeks to expand and engage audiences of 20th and 21st Century music by presenting new and established works in stimulating and provocative environments. In so doing, the Festival provides a visual context for music and an aural context for visual art. This cross-pollination between the aural and the visual enhances the appreciation of both, captivating audiences and artists alike. Programming of the Festival makes a point of presenting the new alongside the established: pieces by prominent composers are juxtaposed with works by newer composers, whose reputations are just beginning to grow, and renowned, established performers share the stage with some of today’s brightest young stars. Pre-concert presentations of Ambient Music, pre-taped electro-acoustic works written by emerging composers from the Look & Listen Festival Composers Collective are presented as sound installations in the half-hour prior to each evening’s concert. Audience members are encouraged to listen, have conversations, and explore the gallery during this time. |
